Description
Berkhof Systematic Theology/Systematic Theology
Author: Louis Berkhof
Translator: Suizhen
Editor: Pan Qiusong
The most influential collection of Reformed theology! This book is faithful to the clear line of Reformed faith. The author’s concise and compact style and modern treatment make this work the most important summary of Reformed theology in the twentieth century.
Book Introduction
In Systematic Theology, Berkhof follows Calvin in theological thought, as well as the Reformed theology of Dutch theologians Kuyper and Bavinck. Berkhof was most obviously influenced by Bavinck’s theology. Berkhof was not a creative or speculative theologian. His main contribution was to expound the essence of Reformed Christianity. Berkhof’s writing is solid and well organized, making it suitable for seminary textbooks and personal devotional reading. It has been adopted by seminaries across the United States and Canada, and is also welcomed by pure faith circles around the world.
about the author
A Reformed theologian whose influence on the church came primarily from the seminary. Universities and churches adopted his Systematic Theology (1941), which was continually reprinted; the first edition (1932) was published as Reformed Neophysics. Louis was Dutch and came to the United States in 1882. He first graduated from Calvin College and Seminary, and then went to Princeton Theological Seminary from 1902 to 4 to study with BB Warfield and G. Vos. He held various positions at Calvin Theological Seminary from 1906 to 1944, including deanship from 1931 until his retirement in 1944. Louis’ theological thought was mainly based on the Dutch Reformed tradition (especially H. Bavinck). The advantage of his “Systematic Theology” is that it can express Reformed theology in English. The whole book is very well organized and suitable for use as a textbook in seminaries. It can also discuss the latest theological thoughts (such as the thoughts of early Barth). , but there is no creativity in theological thinking. … In modern Reformed theology, it seems that there is no systematic theology work in English that can be used as a student textbook, so in the foreseeable future, his “Systematic Theology” will still be popular.

■ “The standard Reformed text, this book is rich in information and analysis. From any theological perspective, it is the most useful single volume of systematic theology.”
—Wayne Grudem
■ “The best introductory book to traditional doctrinal theology of the Reformed Church in the contemporary English-speaking world.”
